11月23日(木)は東京・広尾にある霞町音楽堂で開催された、鈴木直樹さん＆フレンズ コンサートへ！
今回は大ファンのクラリネット奏者・鈴木 直樹さんとビブラフォン宅間 善之さん、そして今回初めましてのピアノ・金益 研二さんによるトリオ・ジャズ演奏です。
始まりは、お馴染み、Avalon、Stardust、鈴懸の径などスタンダードナンバーから。
鈴木さんと宅間さんは、共演されて20年にもなるそうで、今はもう阿吽の呼吸で演奏できるそう！もう何度も演奏してきている楽曲も、毎回何か新しい色があって、聞くたびに進化している！✨
特に「枯葉」では、遊び心も満載。でも、そんな遊び心もありつつ、その世界観と美しさを損なわないのが、鈴木さんと宅間さんが凄い所です！
音楽はどんな自由な解釈も受け止めてくれますが、自由＝素晴らしいもの、にはなりません。やっぱりオリジナルの世界観はあって、おふたりの場合は、それを完全に打ち消さずに、そういう解釈（編曲）もありだよね、と、共感できるような新しい発想を魅せてくれるところが素晴らしい。音遊びという感じで、聞いているのも、見ているのも楽しくて、それでいて、音も技術も素晴らしくて、メロディーやハーモニーが美しい！最高なのです！本当に天才！😍
と、普段はクラシックやタンゴがメインの金益さんも一緒にジャムセッションに加わり、また素晴らしい「枯葉」が聞けました！普段とが違うフィールドでも、全然違和感なく、ジャズのような即興も美しく演奏されていた金益さんも凄いです！✨
途中、金益さんのソロでRhapsody in Blue ~ I Got Rhythm ~ Fascinating Rhythmとガーシュイン好きにはたまらないメドレーもありました。これがまた流れるような、本当に魅力的な音色で素晴らしかったです！
また、金益さんオリジナルの「そよ風のミロンガ」という曲もあり、そちらはクラリネットとビブラフォンの音色で、さらにさわやか感が増して、美しかったです。
ちなみにミロンガとはタンゴの原型だそうで、アルゼンチン辺りから発生しているそう。
後半はタンゴの有名曲も何曲かあり、特に有名なエル・チョクロとか、とっても魅力的！流れるような鍵盤の指運びと、リズム感が、さらに各曲を魅力的にされていました！✨
それから、宅間さんオリジナルのStarly SkyやXel-Ha、鈴木さんのターキッシュクラリネットによる「Intense -from Ceddin Deden-」も聞けて、どの曲も素晴らしくて、大満足の演奏会でした。
そして、実は来年のあるコンサートにこの3名が出演されます！
2024年1月24日(水)に渋谷のさくらホールにて鈴木直樹さん率いるビッグバンド&ストリングス・オーケストラで奏でるジャズ&ポップのコンサートがあります。
リベルタンゴ、シング・シング・シングなどの名曲以外に、「残酷な天使のテーゼ」や「サザンオールスターズ・メドレー」など近代の曲もあり！
その他、バンジョーの「（本当に）世界の」青木研さんを始め、素晴らしい演奏者が勢揃い！というか、素晴らしい演奏者さんしかおりません！こんな凄い方たちが一堂に集まり、演奏が聴ける機会は滅多にありません！日本にいるなら、なおさらです！平日ですが、休んでも絶対に損はない！
また、このコンサートは東京都内の児童施設の子供たちの進学や就職を支援している基金の継続を助ける意義もあります。

本当に良い音楽は心を豊かにする。そして誰でも同じ空間を楽しめるところが音楽の魅力の一つ。
経済はもちろん大事なのですが、一番大事なのはやっぱり精神だと思います。だからこそ、良い音楽が常に必要だと思うのです。

On Thursday 23 November, I went to the Naoki Suzuki & His Friends concert at Kasumicho Ongakudo in Hiroo, Tokyo!
This time it was a trio jazz performance by Naoki Suzuki, a clarinetist and Yoshiyuki Takuma on vibraphone, I’m a big fan of them! and Kenji Kanamasu on piano, that was the first time to listen to.
They started with familiar standard numbers such as Avalon, Stardust and Suzukake no michi.
Mr Suzuki and Mr Takuma have been performing together for 20 years, and now they are able to play together careless in good chemistry! Even the songs they have played many times already, have some new color each time, evolving every time you hear them! ✨
Especially in “Autumn Leaves”, there’s a lot of playfulness. But the great thing about Mr Suzuki and Mr Takuma is that they don’t lose its world view and beauty while being so playful!
Music can accept any kind of free interpretation, but free does not equal great. There is the original world view, and in the case of the two of you, it is wonderful that they do not completely cancel it out, but instead give us new ideas that we can understand, thinking that such interpretations (arrangements) are also possible. It’s like playing with sound, it’s fun to listen to and watch, and yet the sound and technique are wonderful, and the melodies and harmonies are beautiful! It’s the best! Truly genius, they are! 😍
and Mr. Kanemasu, who usually plays mainly classical and tango, joined in the jam session with them and we heard another great ‘Autumn Leaves’! Mr. Kanemasu, who was not at all uncomfortable in a different field from his usual, and who also played beautiful jazz-like improvisations, was also amazing! ✨
On the way, there was a Gershwin’s medley, Rhapsody in Blue ~ I Got Rhythm ~ Fascinating Rhythm by Mr. Kanemasu’s solo. It was wonderful to hear his flowing and truly charming tone! Especially for Gershwin lovers!
There was also an original score by Mr. Kanemasu called ‘Milonga in the Breeze‘, which was even more refreshing and beautiful with the clarinet and vibraphone tones.
FYI, a milonga is a prototype of tango, which is said to have originated in Argentina.
The second half of the concert included several well-known tango songs, especially the famous El Choclo, which is very attractive! His flowing fingering of the keys and the sense of rhythm made each song even more fascinating! ✨
We also got to hear Mr Takuma’s original ‘Starly Sky’, ‘Xel-Ha‘ and Mr Suzuki’s ‘Intense -from Ceddin Deden-‘ on Turkish clarinet, all of which were wonderful and very satisfying.
And in fact, these three will be performing at one of the concerts next year!
On Wednesday 24 January 2024, there will be a jazz and pop concert played by the Big Band & String Orchestra led by Naoki Suzuki at Sakura Hall in Shibuya.
Apart from classic songs such as ‘Libertango’ and ‘Sing Sing Sing’, there will also be modern songs such as Cruel Angel’s Thesis and Southern All Stars Medley!
Other great performers include one of the greatest banjoist Ken Aoki, (in the world, really), and many more! Or rather, there are great performers only! It’s not often you get the chance to hear such great musicians all in one place! If you’re in Japan, even more so! It’s a weekday, but it’s definitely worth taking the day off!
This concert also has the significance of helping to continue the foundation that supports children from foster homes in Tokyo to go on to higher education and employment.

Really good music enriches the soul. And one of the charms of music is that anyone can enjoy the same space.
Of course the economy is important, but I think the most important thing is the spirit. That is why I think good music is always necessary.
